While your transformation yet remains a mystery, you decide that it is one for your future self to solve. For now, the time has come to wrap up the day with one last activity. You ask your companions if they are still up for some extra stargazing, as per Moonflower's suggestion.
Moonflower: "Oh yeah! I know just the spot!"
Apple Basket: "I still got some sugar left in me. Where we goin'?"
You unequip Star Hairpin.
After dropping everything off at your house, you set forth southward, and leave the town's beaten dirt paths far behind. Warm lamplight fades in the distance behind moonlit hills, and soon enough, you are alone together.
Apple Basket: "So, what's this place you found like?"
Moonflower: "You'll see! It's not super far."
Apple Basket: "One of those hills, I reckon? They sure look different at night."
You can't help but agree. Under the shroud of night, vibrant fields of green and yellow have become shaded in dark blue, the soft grass ever waving in the cool gentle breeze. Trees and mountains, once distinct landmarks, now come together and blend into the obscured skyline, leaving but the moon and stars to guide you.
Fortunately, the bat pony has taken the lead, and you continue to follow her while chatting with your friends over the songs of crickets and grasshoppers. Before long, you cross one last valley, and arrive at the foot of a large grassy hill.
Moonflower: "We're here!"
Moonflower excitedly canters up the hill, and you follow after her. As you begin to climb, surrounding heights slowly sink below your own level to reveal those behind them, and then those behind them, the horizon stretching further and further away, until finally, you reach the top.
Apple Basket: "Well, I'll be..."
The sight that greets you takes your breath away; from up here, nothing — not a tree, nor a mountain — stands in the view of the clear night sky. It is as through the land itself had lied down to sleep, save for the small glimmer of a town far to the north.
Moonflower: "Heehee! Ya like it?"
Apple Basket: "It's real nice! Phew... and comfy, too."
You take a seat atop the hill, and look up at the starfields a world away, huddled together warmly under leathered and feathered wings.
Apple Basket: "First an oracle, and now an alicorn. Y'all sure know how to make a humble farmpony feel real special."
You nudge Apple Basket, and playfully tell him that his first adventure didn't end so badly after all.
Apple Basket: "Heh. You can say that again. Don't think I could'a wished for a better ending."
Moonflower: "Oooh, I can think of a way to make it better! Heeheehee..."
You share a giggle, but decide to play along nonetheless. With some increasingly intimate kisses and nuzzles being passed around, the crisp autumn air seemingly grows warmer, each tender caress chasing away the shivers of the night.
And as the flames of love ignite within your hearts once more, you partake in a beautiful heated moment of passion. Then, it calms down. A break. You catch your breath, and gaze upon the ocean of twinkling stars above. And before you know it: a joke, a flattery, and it starts all over again...
By the time you make it home for a much needed bath and a calling bed, the twilight of dawn has begun to glow on the edge of the firmament. You fall fast asleep with a smile on your face, and your friends in embrace...

- I speculated about the Honourshine storyline in 2023-07-31#3300.
- Since Apple Basket has to leave, I guess the thing between him and Moonflower was just a summer romance? Not to minimize it. 🥲
- What did Moonflower and Apple Basket wish for? (Maybe 2023-08-07#3323?)
My todo list for tomorrow and beyond:
- See Apple Basket off (presumably to the train station, which is how we got here from Greenhoof Grove in 2021-08-02).
- In a quiet moment, ask Moonflower and Apple Basket what they wished for.
- Check up on how the batponies are doing/rebuilding. I wonder if they have any leaders besides the Oracle? If not, Moonflower adventuring with us might be shirking. 😅 Maybe we should confer with Mayor Hoofingold and the rest of the clan on the topic of building more permanent housing.
- Go to Ponyville to present ourselves to the nearest alicorn, as one does upon ascending.
...
Actually, I just remembered the batponies are normally awake during the night. So optimistically, the mayor will have made plans for rebuilding while we're asleep. 😅 Here's hoping we get an update about it in our mailbox in the morning?
- Go to Ponyville to investigate guild activity (2023-01-16) and to ask anypony with the College of Equestrian History if they know an Honourshine.
- Tag along with Moondancer because she'll presumably be going from Hoofington's inn to Ponyville to help research the ring. (Not sure what Dawn Break's plans are.)
- Check the Hoofington posting board, as any adventurer should!
- Buy blank scrolls; we've had ink and quills but no stationery for ages.
- Learn how to fly and how to use magic. Unfortunately, I imagine both of these would take on the order of days at least. I wonder if there is a way to skip time or have it go faster than one hour at a time, e.g. to spend a few days training? It can require a majority vote or something to be more legitimate.
- Buy a stardial so the Status screen includes the date.
That said, I also want us to go the Ponyville and have Trailblazer checked out by Twilight. So maybe we can delay Apple Basket’s farewell a bit, by going to the Ponyville train station after visiting Twilight?
I don't think there will be bad consequences for the townsponies finding out anyways, besides potentially a turn or two wasted explaining, unless I'm missing something. In other words, a bit of light chaos...
If we really care a lot, we could slip out in the dead of night tomorrow. Actually, we have had a command that was just to wait until nightfall (2019-04-01). But there is having to travel through the Everfree Forest at night and waking Twilight. Or we could send Moonflower to explain our situation to Twilight during the day.
I considered asking Moonflower if we can borrow her cap. It's pretty big. ^^
Probably not. But I don't want the attention. As Alicorn we're really going to stand out.
Thinking about it, maybe we should talk with Hoofingold about offering the bat ponies to stay in Hoofington for a while. Ponies are nice and I’m sure some would be willing to temporarily share their homes with bat ponies.
