Before discussing what brought you here, you curiously ask Ryokasei why he called you Moon and Stars. The greater demon's horns flash alight in teal flames, and three symbols appear upon the altar: a crescent moon and two stars.
Ryokasei: "The Emberdark Prophecy foretells the coming of the Trignitors: three heroes, marked by Moon and Stars, whose actions will rekindle the ashes of the forsaken, and stoke the flames of absolution. You bear the marks of Moon and Stars, therefore I address you as such."
Taken aback, you glance at your party's cutie marks: Moonflower's crescent moon, Honourshine's white star, and your own golden star. You ask Ryokasei if he believes that you are the prophesied heroes.
Ryokasei: "Bearing the marks does not make you the Trignitors. But you may become the Trignitors, should you fulfill the Emberdark Prophecy."
You slowly nod. Admittedly, you were not seeking to fulfill any prophecies today.
Ryokasei: "You cannot choose to fulfill the Emberdark Prophecy. Your actions will reveal whether you are the Trignitors or not."
It wouldn't be the first time that your actions had unforeseen consequences, you figure. And with that question somewhat answered, you decide to bring up the actual reason why you came here: to learn how to communicate with souls.
Ryokasei: "To receive my boon, you must first prove your wisdom to me. To this end, I will give you a puzzle to solve.
Long ago, a painter came to Final Rest. He lived alone, in the house atop the eastern hill. He led a peaceful life, painting portraits of the residents. But before he could finish his final piece, he was driven to madness.
Go to the painter's house, and find that which drove him mad. Then, return here, and place it upon the altar before me.
Succeed, and I will grant you my boon. Fail, and you will not be granted another chance until a year and a day has passed. Do you accept?"

Go to the painter's house, say some campy detective one-liners, and commence the inspection of the scene.
The specific questions I'd ask are:
- Who are the forsaken, and what might they be absolved of?
- Is that all the information that's allowed? What type of madness? Is there anyone we can still speak to who knew him?
Yeah, I think he was already mad before his final piece.
